Master class description:
My master class is a multimedia show that tells about my
successful career as an independent animator. I will show my
classics and brand new shorts. I will talk about the creative
and business aspects of my work and finally, I will do live
drawings to illustrate the secret of my success. Every attendee
of the Master class will get a free Bill Plympton drawing.
Requirements:
1. DVD player
2. Easel with a large paper pad (like newspaper quality, nothing
fancy, something like this , aprx size 24x36")
3. 2 black thick markers ("Sharpie" - doesn't have to be this
brand, but similar)
Shorts films:
Don't Download This Song: An adolescent boy is hypnotized by a
cobra like computer mouse. He starts illegally downloading songs
until the Download Police break down his bedroom door and arrest
him. The boy is put on trial, found guilty and put in jail,
where he awaits the impending doom of an electric chair.
Mexican Standoff: Animated in Plympton's signature pencil
style, "Mexican Standoff" uses the conflict between a Mexican
bandit and a frontier woman as a metaphor for the battle between
the sexes. When a female bandit appears on the scene, a
complicated love-triangle is formed.
Heard 'Em Say: To reproduce the tone of "Heard 'Em Say,"
Plympton depicted West as a cab driver working in a bleak,
fictional city who picks up troubled passengers and eventually
comes across a a young boy and his mother.
The Fan and the Flower: An ill fated and unconsummated romance
between a fan and a flower magically creates a fairy tale
ending. A very atypical Bill Plympton film.
Santa: The Fascist Years: We all think of Santa as Jolly
ole St.Nick. But who knew that he has a dark hidden past thats
very un-jolly? This short film uncovers and explores Santas
flirtation with politics and greed.
Hot Dog: This is the third in the DOG series. In this
episode our plucky hero joins the fire company to save the world
from house fires and gain the affection he so richly deserves.
Typically, the results never turn out the way he planned.
Horn Dog: Here are more misadventures from our plucky
canine, as he fends off an obese dog, attacking oysters, and a
wayward killer violin bow, while trying to win the love of his
hearts desire.
Spiral: I want to explore the hypnotic principles of
movement and form through the use of abstract shapes.
Get to Know Bill Plympton: The Sundance Channels short biography
about Bill Plympton.
The Cow Who Wanted to Be a Hamburger: A tragic story of a bovine
seduced by advertising led down the path of butchers and
carnivores.
Cheat'in: pencil test for Bill's latest animated feature
film.
